Our South Carolina Partners
Central Electric Power Cooperative, Inc. (Central) is a wholesale electric generation and transmission (G&T) owned by the 19 independent distribution cooperatives. Since 1948, Central has been meeting the needs of the South Carolina electric cooperatives through power supply, transmission, renewable energy and carbon reduction and economic development.
Central exists solely for the benefit of its members, and we’re proud to represent the interests of our member-cooperatives. Central and its statewide cooperative partners have played a crucial role in supporting the ever-changing South Carolina landscape, especially after the region experienced exponential growth in the past decade. Each professional involved with these organizations plays a critical role in ensuring we continue to provide low cost, reliable electricity to our members.
South Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives
The non-profit and member-owned cooperatives serve more than 2 million South Carolinians throughout the 46 Counties. They’re responsible for distributing power to members and own and operate more than 79,000 miles of power lines, making it the state’s largest power distribution system. The 19 electric cooperatives also invest millions into their communities to bolster infrastructure, improve sites, and, most importantly, support their members.
The Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina, Inc. (ECSC)
